The goal of Scruffy Scallywags is to collect as many treasure cards as possible. There are three types of treasure cards- gold coins, rubies, and emeralds. The player with the most treasure at the end of the game wins!

To begin, each player is dealt six cards. The rest of the cards are placed in the middle of the players, face down. One player starts by flipping over the top card of their deck- this is their turn card.

On a player's turn, they must do one of four things: play a card from their hand, draw a card from the deck, trade cards with another player, or put one or more cards back into their deck. Play proceeds clockwise around the table.

If a player plays a card that matches the turn card (for example, if the turn card is a two of clubs, and the player plays a two of spades), they take another turn immediately. If they cannot or do not want to take another turn, they must draw two cards from the deck and add them to their hand.

If a player plays a number card (two through ten), they collect that many treasure cards from the middle of the table (face up). Aces are worth eleven, kings twelve, and queens thirteen. If any matching treasure cards are present, the player collects those too.

If a player plays one of the three special cards- skull & crossbones, bottle of rum, or map- they must take an immediate penalty depending on what effect the card has:

• Skull & Crossbones: The player must give one treasure card to each other player at the table.
• Bottle of Rum: The player takes two treasure cards from the table instead of one.
• Map: The player takes three treasure cards from the table instead of one.

After playing a card, if there are any available treasure cards still on the table (either face up or face down), the player collects them and adds them to their hand.
